  • Barley has a low glycemic index which is a good carbohydrate choice for diabetics.

  • Niacin, a B Vitamin, raises good cholesterol and lowers bad cholesterol. One serving of barley (1 cup) contains 14% of the RDA for Niacin.

  • The Zinc in barley helps our body ward off infections.

  • Barley also contains tryptophan, an amino acid which helps our body to relax and sleep.

  • The phytonutrients in barley has anti-cancer properties especially against breast and prostate cancer.
